Recommended Resources: Homosexuality
Here are some highly recommended
resources that deal with the question of homosexual practice from a biblical perspective.
There are literally hundreds of books, articles, and websites that could be listed
here, but those that follow provide good starting points and make reference and/or
link to other important material and websites.
1) The Bible and Homosexual
Practice
The most comprehensive, scholarly
study to date is Robert J. Gagnon, The Bible and Homosexual Practice: Texts and
Hermeneutics (Abingdon Press, 2002). Prof. Gagnon also has a website that deals
exclusively with these issues: http://www.robgagnon.net/.
For an excellent, 112 p. summary of the biblical case against homosexual practice,
see http://wtseminary.gospelcom.net/pdf/reformreview/gagnon_autm05.pdf
2) Sharing the Gospel with
Gays and Lesbians
A very helpful new book is
God's Grace and the Homosexual Next Door: Reaching the Heart of the Gay Men and
Women in Your World (Harvest House, 2006), written by Alan Chambers and other leaders
from Exodus International. It is solid in its biblical approach and brings an excellent
balance of compassion and truth.
3) Helping Those Struggling
with Homosexuality
The Exodus International
website is a great place to start: http://www.exodus-international.org/.
The website is billed as “The largest information and referral ministry in the world
addressing homosexual issues.” See also :#5, below, dealing with Scientific, Medical,
and Ethical issues.
4) Addressing “Gay Christianity”
The best book on this subject
is Joe Dallas, A Strong Delusion: Confronting the “Gay Christian” Movement (Harvest
House, 1996). The author is a former-homosexual who was once part of a “gay Christianity.”
5) Scientific, Medical, and
Ethical Issues
The NARTH website is highly
recommended: http://narth.com/. NARTH stands for
the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality. Not only does
this website carry hundreds of important articles, but it provides important discussions
and critiques of the relevant major issues being raised in both the scientific community
and the popular culture.
6) Homosexual Activism
A very useful website that
provides daily updates on socially relevant issues is Americans for Truth:
http://americansfortruth.com/. This website also links to many other important
websites and offers e-announcements of new material as it is posted. The most important
book written to date is Alan Sears and Craig Osten, The Homosexual Agenda: Exposing
the Principal Threat to Religious Freedom Today (B & H Publishing Group: 2003).
The authors are attorneys who lead the Alliance Defense Fund, a legal alliance devoted
to defending the right to hear and speak the Truth through strategy, training, funding,
and litigation (see http://www.alliancedefensefund.org/main/default.aspx).
7) Homosexuality, The Church,
& Society - 6 DVD Set
This could be the most important resource ever produced by this ministry! More than
eight hours of eye-opening, carefully-documented, shocking truth that cannot be
ignored.
Topics include: The Bible and Homosexual Practice: Separating Fact from Fiction;
